Big Island Road Runners holding relay race & elections on Nov 12, 7:30 am

Each year the BIRR gives two $1000 college scholarships. The 2011 winner was Keaau’s RJ Barroga

The BIRR Board of Directors has decided to hold the 2012 elections earlier than normal.  Most of the Board will not be pursuing another year in their positions and it will give the new Board members an opportunity to shadow the club operations for the next couple of months.  It will be an easier transition for the new Board members to learn about the workings of the club.

Also, the Board has voted to change the membership year from the calendar year to February 1st – January 31st the following year.  For the 2011 membership year, all members will have an extra month grace period (January 2012).  You will have a 13 month membership!!!  It will be easier for you to remember to renew your membership after the Christmas and New Years holidays.

We will still be having our November 24th and December 18th fun runs and hope that the new Board members will join in the preparations.  Also, the Hawaii Island United Way Resolution 5k Run on January 7th and the Hilo To Volcano 50k on January 21st are upcoming in 2012.

The BIRR Election and Relay Fun Run will be held at Lili’uokalani Park in Hilo on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 7:30am.  Please meet at the area of the park nearest the Coconut Island parking lot.  Look for the BIRR banner and our pop up tents.  You don’t need a partner as we will be arranging relay teams during registration.  Each runner will be running a lap around the park three times or 1.86 miles (3k).  Total distance for each team will be 3.73 miles (6k).  The run is free and open to the public.  Following the awards for the relay run, we will have our meeting and elections.
