Kamehameha will play host to a cross-country invitational meet this Saturday, Sept.12, at their Keaau campus.

Invited guest include the Kamehameha Oahu girls, Hawaii Baptist boys and girls, and a powerful girls team from Redlands in California.

The meet will also feature all 15 Big Island Interscholastic Federation cross-country teams for the first time this season.

“The coach from Redlands is from Hawaii.  His name is Dr. Rod Anzai and his son, Alan, was a star runner on Oahu back in the 90’s,” Kamehameha coach, Joel Truesdell said.

According to Truesdell the Kamehameha  Oahu girl’s team is coming as a senior trip with about 20 girls.  Dave Friedman is the Warrior-Oahu head coach.

The Hawaii Baptist girls team, lead by coach Ross Mukai,  was sixth at last year’s state championships and they return their entire team.

Four races are on tap at Kamehameha with the boys open starting at 10 am followed by the girls open, boy’s varsity and girls’ varsity.

  2. Big Dog, I would appreciate it if you would spell out Kamehameha because Kamehameha wasn’t chinese he was Hawaiian.
    Thank you

    • You’re right, of course. I got caught up in one of my lazy moments and have since corrected the post. BTW, the Kamehameha line about him not being Chinese has been around since I was a kid (at least a hundred years :). Old school line that still works!
