Wie Moves into Second at Lorena Ochoa Invitational – Day 2
Michelle Wie started the day at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational Golf Tournament in 10th place, but moved up the leader board by firing a sizzling 66.
Wie, 20 years old and a graduate of Punahou High School, shot five birdies and an eagle to move into a second place tie with Paula Creamer in day two of the four day tournament from Guadalajara, Mexico.
On the par three, 17th hole, Wie had a six foot putt to make par, but her shot sat on the lip of the cup to blemish her near perfect round.
On the 18th hole Wie hooked her ball into the sponsor’s tent and looked to be falling back further on the leader board. On her third shot on the par 5, 18th, Wie dropped the ball to within five feet of the hole to finish the round with birdie.
Leader, Ji-yai Shin from South Korea, continued to lead after shooting a second round 66 and went 11 under taking a three shot lead over Wie and Creamer going into day three tomorrow.
I think 2010 will be the defining year for Michelle Wie – in as much she will become a real force in the womens game – not just a pretty golf babe living off her looks and incredible body.
