Michelle Wie Battling Back on Day 3 of Ochoa Invitational

Hawaii's Michelle Wie looking for first win on LPGA tour

Michelle Wie is making her move up the leader board during the third round of the 2009 Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Wie made the half way turn in a tie for second with Paula Creamer and just one shot behind leader, Ji-yai Shin of South Korea.

At age 20 Wie has yet to win her first major golf tournament while on the LPGA, but things may change after tomorrows closing round.

Off the tee, for most of the day, Wie drove the ball an incredible 280 yards, far outdistancing her group.

But the wheels began to come off for Wie when on the par 4, 12th hole, she drove the ball 308 yards, then on her second shot placed the ball beyond the tee close to the cart path.

Wie’s bogey at the 12th dropped her one shot behind Shin and Creamer and into a tie with Song-Hee Kim for third place and 10 under par for the tournament at that point.

Wie went to the par 3, 13th and placed her drive from the tee to within five feet of the cup.  Her birdie put her into a three way tie with Creamer and Shin.

A bogey on the 15th dropped Wie into a tie for second along with Kim, Creamer and Cristie Kerr, leaving Shin in sole possession of the lead.

Wie shot even par the rest of the way and shares the lead in a tie for first with Cristie Kerr at 10 under going into the final day.

Stay tuned as we may be seeing Wie win her first LPGA.
