Japan’s Kiyoko Shimahara takes second in Honolulu Marathon

Japan's Kiyoko Shimahara won the Yokohama International Women's Marathon last month and placed second in Honolulu today

Japan’s Kiyoko Shimahara battled with Russia’s Svetlana Zakharov in today’s Honolulu Marathon.  Both women exchanged leads several times before Zakharov pulled away in the late stages of the race.

Zakharov won in 2 hours 28 minutes and 34 seconds with Shimahara clocking in at 2:29:53.

On the mens side it was all Kenya sweepting the top five spots with Patrick Mutuki IV winning in 2:12:14.

American Brandon Laan finished sixth in 2:25:41 with Japan’s Satoshi Kato taking seventh in 2:26:16.

  1. enjoyed the marathon and glad I was there to help DJ with whatever motivation he needed to complete his 100th–so emotional for both of us because we are indeed der irends….
