Hawaii Prep Building $3 million all-weather Track
HPA track closing for renovation
The Stanford W. Shutes Track at Hawaii Preparatory Academy will close in early February for renovation.
The track, built in 1962-63, will see some $2.93 million in renovations that will expand the existing track to a 400-meter, eight-lane all-weather synthetic surface track with synthetic infields at each end for high jump, pole vault and other long track events.
HPA will be the fifth school on the Big Island with an all weather track joining Konawaena; Kamehameha; Keaau and Waiakea. (Waiakea is currently the only track not used for BIIF competition)
HPA’s track will be designed and built in compliance with National Federation of State High School Associations and International Association of Athletics Federations standards governing high school and international amateur competitions.
The track is expected to open in late-October 2010.
