Big Dog’s Girls Preseaon X-C Favorites for 2010
Cross-country season is about to start with many of the schools around the state beginning to practice starting on August 2nd.
Based on last season state championship results the Big Dog predicts the following top girls in the state:

Kimberly Pugliese, Mililani, senior, third in state
Sophie Curatilo, Moanalua, senior
Tialana Greenwell, Honokaa, senior, dominate runner in BIIF
Jessica Johnson, Kamehameha-Kapalama, senior
Kyleigh Mann, Punahou, junior
Julia Brand, Punahou, senior
Kela Vargas, Hawaii Prep, senior
Breanne Ball, Iolani, junior
Others to watch: Kelsey Waters, Leilehua(moved out of state); Emily Evans, HPA; Kelsie Kobayashi, Waiakea; Amanda Ishikawa, Mid Pac; Chaylene Guinto, St Francis; Jessica Kafer, Radford (moved out of state); Jaime Durso, Punahou; and some of the incoming freshmen.
For the team championship it should be Punahou and Mililani battling it out again with Punahou coming out on top. Boys top picks will be in tomorrows blog. https://waynejoseph.wordpress.com/2010/07/30/big-dogs-boys-preseaon-x-c-favorites-for-2010/

It’s finally here again. Glad to see the list, but FYI Kelsey Waters of Leilehua moved to the mainland.

How’s it Big Dog,
Might as well add what I am aware of as well. Gabbi Jenkins moved to the mainland last December and Jessica
Kafer also moved back during the summer. As far as I know the other young ladies will be back. I enjoy your blog, keep it up!

You should watch out for Heidi Nicholls from Hawaii Baptist because she was very consistent throughout the season.

Watch Dakota Grossman closely as she dominates the MIL. Far more gutsy than older sister Hailey and will definitely develop into a great distance runner. She will run uncontested on Maui and will have to test her legs at other races around the state.

I understand that she will be at Kamehameha-Hawaii on Saturday running at their invitational against Tia Greenwell and Nadia Ramirez along with some very talented runners from California.

Thomas is right. Though she doesn’t even get a mention from big dog, I predict Nicholls will be top 10, possibly top 8 in the state. Watch and see at the Kaiser Invite.

In today’s Star Advertiser’s Prep World section Kim Pugliese
of Mililani H.S. was named female Athlete of the Week for winning the Leilehua 2 mile time trial in 12:27. Good for her and the sport of cross country to be recognized.
