BIG DOG’S STATE OF HAWAII Girls TOP 20 X-COUNTRY PREDICTIONS

Cross-country season is almost at its mid-way point and there have been some early season surprises.

Based on last season state championship results and what is going on thus far this season the Big Dog predicts the following top 20 girls in the state:

1)       Kimberly Pugliese, Mililani, senior, third in state last season

2)       Dakota Grossmann, Seabury Hall, freshman

3)      Elli Brady, Punahou, sophomore, defending state champion and dominate ILH runner

4)      Kyleigh Mann, Punahou, junior

5)      Sophie Curatilo, Moanalua, senior

6)      Nadia Ramirez, Hilo, senior

7)      Jessica Johnson, Kamehameha-Kapalama, senior

8)      Julia Brand, Punahou, senior

9)      Breanne Ball, Iolani, junior

10)  Heidi Nicholls, Hawaii Baptist, senior

11)  Tialana Greenwell, Honokaa, senior, defending three time BIIF champion

12)  Melissa Wong, Punahou

13)  Deylynn White, Kapolei, junior

14)  Charlene “CJ” Valeriano, Campbell, senior

15)  Lauren Spears, Island School

16)  Aiza Valeriano, Campbell, sophomore

17)  Maile Shigemasa, Pearl City

18)  Courtney Garner, Mililani

19)  Kela Vargas, Hawaii Prep

T20)  Kelsie Kobayashi, Waiakea, junior

T20) Zoe Sims, Hawaii Prep

For the team championship it should be Punahou and Mililani battling it out again with Punahou coming out on top.  Watch for Hilo to make a strong bid for third.

  2. Very insightful, Big Dog … your knowledge of the sport, and the varieties of terrain that many of the marks have been made at this season make your predictions very balanced … I think you’re spot on with team scores, too … Punahou girls will dominate … Go HILO!!! … Good Luck to all!!!

  3. Great job on your top picks, it looks like an exciting second half of the season coming up. The competition on both sides will be fierce.

Anyone know which runners/teams from the neghbor islands are planning to run at the Kaiser Invite this Saturday? This is the State Championship course so it would benefit anyone who participates to have a trial run on the course with big meet atmosphere.

  4. The entries for the Kaiser Invite are posted. I see that HPA is coming over as a team and Tia Greenwell is entered as an individual. I don’t see an Iolani girls team entered, only boys, and none of Punahou’s top girl runners are entered. Interesting?

  6. Heidi Nicholls won the Kaiser meet. She was rock solid the entire way. Kim P. led the race for the first two miles but dropped back to fifth on the last mile.

The HPA girls edged out Mililani for first, with three HPA girls in the top ten. The scary thing is they might not even be the best girls team on the big isle! The Hilo girls have been kicking butt all season.
