Kahuku Football Team Grounded from State Championship Play

State Champion, Kahuku, suspended from play offs

A Message From HHSAA Executive Director Chris Chun: ————————————————————————————————————————————————————-P.O. BOX 62029 􀁺 HONOLULU, HAWAI I 96839

The HHSAA has been closely monitoring the developing situation concerning the Oahu Interscholastic Association’s ruling that Kahuku High School is ineligible to participate in any further varsity football games this season. While this situation is extremely unfortunate for everyone involved, the HHSAA will support the OIA’s ruling and proceed with the upcoming First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championship as planned. Based upon the statewide league representation formula, the OIA shall be awarded three berths in the tournament. Mililani, which was declared the OIA Red Champion, will receive the OIA’s seeded berth. The remaining schools, Waianae and Leilehua will play on Saturday to determine who will be placed as the OIA’s second and third teams. Complete tournament brackets will be released tonight on OC16’s broadcast between Kaimuki and Kalaheo as well as e-mailed to the statewide media outlets and posted on sportshigh.com.-hhsaa-
