XXXI Olympics in Rio de Janeiro to be Engineering Spectacular

Solar powered waterfall

Rio de Janeiro was selected for the 2016 Olympics, and one of the centerpieces of its architecture might be the Solar City Tower. Designed by Swiss architecture firm RAFAA, it gathers solar energy to pump seawater to its top, and resulting falling water spins turbines that produce energy around the clock.

Rio’s concrete Christ is going to have to start performing some impressive miracles to top this. The Solar City Tower is not going to just sit there as it will have a moving waterfall being built on top of Cotonduba Island.

It will house an amphitheater, auditorium, cafeteria and shops on the ground level. You’ll be able to climb up inside it, viewing the beauty of Rio de Janeiro from a variety of observation decks. There will even be bungee jumping!

It will also hold the Olympic Flame!

Now if I can talk my wife into going we will be in for a great spectacle like no other.
