Big Island Road Runners Scholarship Applications Available
The Big Island Road Runners is proud to announce the 2011 “BIRR Scholarship”, which will now factor in a “needs based” component, is now open for all Big Island high school student applicants.
It is easy to apply. Either go the BIIR website and download the application or see the college counselor, athletic director, or running coach at your local high school (public or private). Write an essay of 200 -300 words covering “… how running has affected your life …” along with other pertinent factors like the physical and mental challenges and add in100 words or less on “…. why BIRR should consider you for a need-based scholarship…”. Neatly complete the application and then postmark it by Friday, April 22, 2011 to the BIRR. The application can also be found on the BIRR website: www.bigislandroadrunners.org
In just about the time it takes to run a marathon, a student could complete the entire process and just think – $1,000 to use at a school of their choice – 4 year, 2 year, or a technical/trade school.
P L E A S E – tell your fellow runners, relatives, and neighbors who may have a high school student in their family or know of a deserving student to apply for this scholarship.
One male and one female public high school students will each be awarded a $1,000 scholarship at the annual “BIRR Scholarship Run” to be held at Coconut Island on Sunday, May 15th at 7:30 a.m. Please attend this run to celebrate this occasion, have fun, and celebrate a healthy lifestyle.
