New World Record Set in the Mile by a High School Runner

NEW MILE WORLD RECORD
The fastest mile by a high school runner was set on May 27, 2001 by Alan Webb of Virginia in a time of 3 minutes 53.43 seconds until it was broken today, April 1, 2011 by Honokaa’s Chris Mosch.
Mosch, a senior on the Dragon cross country and track teams, ran an incredible 3 minutes 52.22 seconds at the Honokaa track early Friday morning.
Being hand time by his father, Mosch traversed the all cinder dirt track with effortless like abandon hitting each lap in 58 seconds.
Asked what he liked best about earning his world record Mosch commented that there’s nothing like setting a record on April 1st.
We’ll see Chris Mosch and the rest of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation track & field athletes in duel East/West meets on Saturday, April 2nd.
West schools will meet at Hawaii Prep and East Schools will be at Kamehameha with field events starting at 9 am and running at 10 for both venues.
