  1. Congratulations to the Waiakea boys and Kamehameha girls! Lots of great competition this year. Justin Raymond (Konawaena), Nalu Souza (Kamehameha), Tyler Yonemori (Waiakea), Isaiah Kanakanui (Hilo), Megan Aina (Kamehameha) all look to be repeat champs (and perhaps a few others). Good luck to all competitors! Lets just hope that the officiating is up to the level of competition.

  2. Just updating Judo Guy. Tyler was dominating in all of his wins, just as he’s been all season. Megan and Justin also looked strong. Nalu did not compete. Isaiah had tough matches, but he’s also a repeat champ. Congratulations to these and all other winners and placers. Good luck at states. It’s been a great judo season with a nice mixture of very talented veteran judo players and very enthusiastic novices. Great kids. I hope you feature some of them in your columns.

  3. updates from hilo high. got to mention our girl champs lahi kanakanui (only 9th grade and no losses this year) and hilary luna who did us proud. sean arakaki 178 champ (yay seanie!) was good. josh takeguchi and jens beets fought all the way to second. mostly everybody else placed and EVERYONE fought like a CHAMP.

got to give it to that yonemori kid. he is so spectacular. won the 145 division so easily. our 145 boys jordan, jens, and kevin are all so good, but they are just no match for him. real nice kid too. big island judo is so lucky to have a kid (good in judo and good kid) like yonemori represent us.

  5. The Hilo High girls did awesome with 9th grader Lahi Kanakanui going undefeated in the 140 and 154 lbs divisions. Hillary Luna a 10th grader who had a tough season with injuries and than loosing to Kamehameha’s Chantel Pohina at Kealakehe then coming back at the BIIF finals to dominate Pohina for the win in the 129 lbs division.
Another 9th grader Seisha Boundaug also captured the 109 lbs. BIIF title in her 1st year in judo competition,
Look out for Kanakanui, Luna, and Boundaug in the next couple of years to repeat from Hilo High.

  6. Congratulations to Waiakea’s TYLER YONEMORI and Kamehameha’s MEGAN AINA for being selected as BIIF Players of the Year! Can’t think of anyone more deserving than these 2. So inspiring to watch them compete. Good luck at states Tyler and Megan and bring home the gold. Good luck to all of the other states players too.

Would like to agree with East side Judo that the Hilo High girls and especially Lahi Kanakanui were awesome. Lahi also deserves Player of the Year honors for her outstanding season. Hey East side – at least east side kids won. 🙂
