HHSAA Volleyball – KS-Kapalama wins DI & Hawai’i Baptist DII

DI BVB: KS-Kapalama 3, #1 Punahou 0  for HHSAA Championship

New City Nissan Division II Boys Volleyball State Championships

Championship match   At McKinley

No. 1 seed Hawaii Baptist 3, No. 3 Seabury 0 (25-21, 25-23, 26-24)

Chad Barretta had 20 kills, including 10 in the third set, and Michael Fisher added 14 as the Eagles won their third state Division II boys championship in four years.

Mason Ohta had 23 assists and Kalei Hosaka had 12 digs for Hawaii Baptist.

Third Place   At McKinley

No. 4 seed Kohala 2, No. 2 seed Castle 0 (25-19, 25-15)

Christopher Roxburgh had 10 kills as the Cowboys (17-1) beat the Knights (16-2).

In the first set, Kohala went on a 7-0 run for an 18-10 lead. Roxburgh and Johnny Hiraoka both had two kills during the surge. The Knights twice got as close as four.

In the second set, Donald Wong Jr. served nine in a row as the Cowboys took a 13-4 lead. Castle got as close as 17-12. Roxburgh had four kills without an error in the set.

Castle finished with 14 kills, 14 hitting errors and six service errors.

Charlie Hendrix had five kills to lead the Knights.

Fifth Place                At McKinley

Kahuku 2, Hawaii Prep 1 (24-26, 25-18, 15-9)

Shairone Thompson had 22 kills with only four errors as the Red Raiders (14-6) beat Ka Makani (11-7).

Thompson had two aces during a 6-0 run in the third set, which put Kahuku ahead 12-5. Thompson had four kills in the third.

Kahuku’s Quayd Ah You had 27 assists and three aces.
