Veterans Day 5K run/walk on tap
Big Dog Productions will host a 5K (3.1-mile) fun run/walk on Veterans Day, Friday, November 11, starting at the entrance to Moku Ola (Coconut Island) in Hilo.
Start time is set for 7:30 a.m. and the entry fee is a canned good item to be donated to the Hawaii Island Food Basket.
Host Wayne “Big Dog” Joseph is a U.S. Army Veteran that is organizing the event as a way of honoring our military troops.
Post race refreshments will be provided by State House Representatives Jerry Chang and Clift Tsuji. Finishers will also receive Vidration sports drink provided by Keith Aoki of Anheuser-Busch Hawaii, while supplies last.

Vulcan Athletic Club luncheon at the Naniloa on November 8
The Vulcan Athletic Club will hold its monthly luncheon on Tuesday, November 8 at 12:00 noon in the Palm Lounge room at the Naniloa Volcanoes Resort.
The guest speakers will be head men’s basketball coach Jeff Law and women’s head basketball David Kaneshiro.
Coach Law enters his 14th season as the Vulcan’s head coach and sports a record of 194 wins against 150 losses. Prior to his current position with UH-Hilo, Law held coaching positions at SUNY-Plattsburgh, Hobart College, UH-Manoa, Santa Monica College and Los Angeles City College. Law was named the NABC/NCAA Div-II west region coach of the year as well as the Pac West coach of the year after the Vulcans 2004-2005 season.
Coach Kaneshiro enters his second season as the women’s head coach. Kaneshiro was a standout guard at Hilo H.S. from 1987-1989 then went on to play for Beloit College (Wisc.) where he was a team captain and earned all conference honors is 1994. Prior to UH Hilo Kaneshiro served as the head coach of the Webster University men’s team that won the SLIAC conference title in 2002. Kaneshiro was also the head coach at Blackburn college where his teams claimed two conference titles during his 3 year tenure there.
The Vulcan Athletic Club is organized under the University of Hawai’i Foundation and is focused on providing financial, scholarship and service support to the UH-Hilo Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
