Kalani defeats 2 time defending Champion Punahou in HHSAA DI soccer Championships
Kalani defeated No. 2 seed Punahou, 3-2, on Leo Klink’s goal in the 80th and final minute tonight in the 39th Annual Outrigger Hotels & Resorts/Hawai’i High School Athletic Association Division I Boys Soccer State Championship quarterfinals at Waipi’o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
Punahou had tied it at 2-2 in the 77th minute on a goal by Alex Lam.
Punahou was the two-time defending state champion.
Kalani advances to Friday’s 5 p.m. semifinal vs. Kapolei. ‘Iolani will play No. 1 seed Mililani in the other semifinal at 7.
Also, please note the following CORRECTIONS: ‘Aiea player Tayler Sonobe-Morita spells his first name with an “e,” not an “o” as reported earlier. Honoka’a’s record is now 17-0.
