Skeet Shooting Results from Hilo

The Kilauea Sporting Skeet Club held a compact sporting clay shoot on August 19th at the County Trap and Skeet Range. The five-stand course offered a wide variety of targets including rabbits and chandelles. The top guns in this fifty target event included:
• 12 gauge: Milford Tabura, 36; Mike Munnerlyn, 35; Gina Ha’o, 31.
• Sub gauge: Elton Endo, 30; Jimmy Watt, 26; James Krietemeyer, 23.

Waipio Challenge 30 K on October 20 hosted by Brantley Center
On Saturday, October 20, 2012, The Brantley Center will host its first Annual 5K, Half Marathon and 30K Waipio Challenge. All three races start from the County of Hawaii’s Honoka’a Sports Complex. The races all start at 6:30 am. The registration fees are currently $25 for the 5K, $65 for the half-marathon and$75 for the 30K. All of the prices go up on October 1, 2012. The registration fee includes race day entertainment, refreshments, aid stations on the course, finisher medals for the Half and 30 K finishers and finisher t-shirts for all participants. There will be age group awards as well. The races all start at the sports complex then run down Lehua Steet to Mamane Street. Runners then run out towards Waipio Valley. Both the 5K and Half Marathon runners wil turn at their respective turning points and return to the complex. The 30K runners turn at the Waipio Valley lookout and runs back to Honoka’a town. 30K runners will run along Mamane Street out towards highway 19, then turn around and return to the Sports Complex. The 5K is a walker friendly event and can participate. There are no time limits in any of the races.
Race Director and Executive Director of the Brantley Center, Steve Pavao said, ” We expect this event to grow each year and become a major event not just for the Brantley Center but for Honoka’a and the Hamakua community. We invite partners to join us as we celebrate health and wellness as well as bring in much needed business into the struggling business sector.”
The runs are a benefit for the Brantley Center. The Brantley Center has been providing services to the disabled community of North Hilo, Hamakua and Kohala for over forty years. The Center is located in Honoka’a. The center is a Hawaii Island United Way partner agency. For information about the runs call Steve Pavao at 430-0267.
