Vulcan Athletic Club luncheon to feature Vulcan coaches, Joey Estrella & Jaime Wallin

Joey Estrella and Brian Stevens

Long time UHH Vulcan Baseball coach, Joey Estrella, along with Vulcan softball coach Jaime Wallen, will be speaking at the next Vulcan Athletic Club luncheon in the Palm Lounge of the Naniloa on Tuesday,  January 10 at noon.

The VAC host monthly luncheons which feature a coach and one of their athlets.

Soup and sandwich, along with beverage, is only $12 and a full entree is just $16.
The luncheon begins at noon and is a great way to meet some of the dedicated coaches and staff representing our Vulcan family.

Pictured with Coach Estrella is Pitching Coach Brian Stevens who married a local girl and they now call Hilo their home.  I had the pleasure of meeting Brian at the last VAC luncheon.

The public is encouraged to attend these luncheons and further information can be obtained by calling 974-7700.   Coach Estrella is a class act and I can’t wait till the January luncheon.  I’ve never met coach Wallin so that will be a great honor for me.
Estrella enters his 33rd season and has led the Vulcans to three NAIA world series and won five NAIA district championships in the 1980s. The Vulcans made the move from NAIA to the NCAA Division I level under Estrella.

As a baseball player at the University of Hawaii Manoa, Estrella was the first recipient of the annual Jack Bonham award for excellence on the field, in the class room and in public service.

Wallin enters her second season as the head coach of the softball program. The 2011 team amassed an overall season record of 28-14 and a Pac West record of 21-7. Wallin played collegiate softball at Pace University and Queens College. She was a 1997 all-conference selection at Pace and a two-time all-conference player at Queens. She has held coaching positions at Lafayette College, Sonoma State, Stony Brook, UC-Davis and Queens College.

The Vulcan Athletic Club is organized under the University of Hawaii Foundation and focused on providing financial, scholarship and service support to the UH-Hilo Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

For information on or applications for the VAC call 974-7700. Applications will also be available at the luncheon.

Hope to see some of you there.
