Will anyone ever leave this 18-year old woman alone?  Rumors continue to fly and the world continues to thrist for negative informatin about this young woman.  Now an Australian newspaper prints that Semenya doesn’t have ovaries and that she has internal male organs.

Most legitimate newspapers would print their sources, but of course this one does not and yet it is picked up by the wire service and it’s false claims printed for the world to see.

Two weeks ago the IAAF issued a statement that Semenya had higher than normal testosterone levels, but was still within the normal range allowed for women.

casterFollowing is the news release made available earlier today:

The International Association of Athletics Federations did not confirm or deny Australian newspaper reports that the recently crowned women’s world 800-meter champion has male and female sexual organs.

“We would like to emphasize that these should not be considered as official statements by the IAAF,” the federation said in a statement regarding the reports that first appeared in News Limited and Fairfax newspapers

The Australian newspaper reported in its Friday edition that medical reports on the 18-year-old Semenya indicate she has no ovaries, but rather has internal male testes, which are producing large amounts of testosterone.

“We can officially confirm that gender verification test results will be examined by a group of medical experts,” the IAAF said in a written statement. “No decision on the case will be communicated until the IAAF has had the opportunity to complete this examination. We do not expect to make a final decision on this case before the next meeting of the IAAF Council which takes place in Monaco on November 20-21.”

Caster Semenya all woman!

Running sensation, Caster Semenya, is a woman!

Running sensation, Caster Semenya, is a woman!

Enough already.  Lets leave this young woman alone.  After a spectacular performance in the 800m in Berlin at the World Championship final, South African runner Caster Semenya’s gender was called into question. After all, she not only performed exceptionally well, but she didn’t look much like a woman. The controversy can now be laid to rest, as testing shows that her testosterone levels were found to be higher than normal, but still within the range that will allow her to continue to participate in women’s races.

Sources within the Athletics South Africa organization said that she was tested three years ago. Semenya had reportedly taken a standard urine test, which is taken by all athletes, instead of a gender verification test to make sure that she was eligible to compete.

Sources stated:   “She was tested three years ago when she started competing and it was found that she is a woman. She may have rather high levels of male hormones but she is definitely a woman.”
