Big Island Sports Hall of Fame Wall – Rededication on Saturday
WALL OF FAME EVENT ON SATURDAY
Coming up on Saturday, May 22, at the Prince Kuhio Plaza starting at 10 am will be the rededication of the Big Island Sports Hall of Fame wall.
Located near the entrance of IHOP and Macy’s Men’s Shop photo’s of 114 legends in Big Island sports will be officially presented to the public.
“We’re hoping we can locate and notify all 114 of the inductees and their families to have them join us for this special dedication,” BISHF chairman Jerry Chang said.
The photos were part of the plaza for nearly eight years before mail management decided to sell the wall space in February 2008 leaving the Hall of Fame without a home.
For over two year the photos and plaques honoring Big Island sports volunteers, which had a combined 4,000 years of community service, needed to be placed into storage.
Donations may also be made to Big Island Sports Hall of Fame, P.O. Box 11211, Hilo, Hawaii 96721.
The BISHF ask that inductees and/or their family members, along with the general public, attend the rededication. The event will be emceed by KTA Executive Vice President and host of Living in Paradise Derek Kurisu.
The late Jack Matsui was the founder of the Big Island Sports Hall of Fame.
